Purpose of the Church Guided Research Project

Instructions and resources for completing the country project for Introduction to the Purpose of the Church.

Culture in Your Country

In addition to knowing what is currently taking place in your country, it is important to become familiar with the country’s culture including its holidays, traditional life, and etiquette.  It is difficult to share the gospel of Christ if you have offended your country’s citizens.

In the chart linked below, describe up to five major holidays in your country including the date celebrated, the holidays’ significance, whether it is a religious or a civic holiday, and how the holidays are celebrated including any traditional foods.

In your own words, describe any three of the following topics concerning traditional life in your country:

  • Traditional Dress
  • Houses
  • Art
  • Music
  • Literature
  • Sports

Each topic should be described in at least two sentences for a total of 6 sentences.

In your own words, describe typical everyday food and drink and special occasion food and drink in your country.

In your own words answer the following short questions concerning etiquette in your country:

  • How do people in your country greet one another?
  • What social courtesies may be offered to guests?
  • What behaviors, if any, are considered rude, taboo, or offensive?  For example, in some countries it is considered inappropriate to use your left hand to give anything to another person.
  • How do men and women behave toward one another in public?
