Using Websites

Websites provide a wide range of information varying in quality. Websites are useful for locating current news, information from various organizations, and opinions concerning a wide variety of subjects. Unlike books and periodicals, websites are not reviewed by any outside source or publishing body and must be carefully reviewed to determine legitimacy.

Counseling & Psychology Associations

The following professional associations are devoted to the topics of counseling and psychology.

American Association of Christian Counselors
Official website of the American Association of Christian Counselors offering resources available for purchase, annual conference, and membership information.
American Counseling Association
The official website of the American Counseling Association which provides information on their organization, conferences, and other resources concerning counseling. Some resources are limited to members.
American Psychological Association
The official website of the American Psychological Association providing information concerning the multitude of publications and resources offered by this premier psychology association. Some resources are restricted to members.
Association of Psychological Science
Official website of the Association of Psychological Science which focuses on scientifically oriented psychology.
Christian Association for Psychological Studies
The official website providing information on the organization, their conferences and continuing education events, as well as publications and other resources. Some resources are limited to members.

Current Topics in Psychology
Website of clinical psychologist, Dr. Michael Fenichel, which contains links to a variety of websites and articles arranged by topic.
Encyclopedia of Psychology
Website created by the Jacksonville State University Department of Psychology containing links to websites on many aspects of psychology arranged by topic.
Psych Web
Psych Web was created and maintained by Dr. Russell Dewey as a resource for psychology students and teachers.
PsychCentral
A website produced by Dr. John Grohol which provides information on a variety of psychological issues for a non-professional audience.
Psychological Research on the Net
This website, maintained by Dr. John F. Krantz at Hanover College, spotlights articles about psychology experiments that can be found on the internet. Many links are to psychological surveys being conducted.
Social Psychology Network
A site maintained by Scott Plous, Wesleyan University, and supported by a National Science Foundation grant. The site aims to use social psychology to promote peace and social justice.

Mental Help
Geared toward laypeople, this website contains a variety of articles and links to information about various mental illnesses written by licensed counselors and professors.
National Institute of Mental Health
Government website containing links to current research conducted by the institute and other organizations as well as link to resources on how to assist clients in dealing with current tragedies.
SAMHSA: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
SAMHSA "is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities." (from website)

Pastor Care

CareGivers Forum
Hosts "an annual gathering of people from across the United States and elsewhere who are involved in the ministry of caring for professional Christian workers and their families" and provides a directory of over 100 ministries dedicated to pastor care.
Pastor Burnout
A website geared toward pastors to help them avoid burnout produced by a member of the PastorCare network.
PastorCare.org
A network of individuals throughout the country dedicated to helping hurting pastors and their families.
ShepherdCare
An organization dedicated to providing pastors with tools to avoid burnout and failure.

Barnabas Ministries
An organization dedicated to encouraging, counseling, and mentoring those in Christian leadership with locations in Omaha, Nebraska, Austria, and Croatia.
